Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

With the holiday festivities parties to attend in the month of December, it seems like the holiday weight gain is as much a tradition as the Christmas turkey. The holiday season is also known as the official eating season. Ouch. That's no doubt going to put a wrench in any fitness goals if you are going to take part in the 'eating season' but I'm here to tell you:

YOU don't have to settle for that!

Here are a few tips to help you avoid looking and feeling like the stuffed turkey:

1. Smart Eating - Lets avoid the temptation to eat until we are the ones who feel 'stuffed.' Plus, it's not a good look either. We all love to eat home cooked foods like mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and turkey but we don't need to eat it as if we're never going to eat it again. Having a little of everything is OK, but again lets avoid resembling a balloon that you would see in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

2. Veggies FIRST - Start with the veggie tray instead of the other appetizers. Fill up on the healthy foods first, leaving less room for high fat, grease, and fried foods. You'll save tons of calories.

3. Make sure you SCHEDULE a time for workouts - Time is always an issue, especially in the holiday season so you need to make sure you 'pencil in' a time to workout into your day especially if you want to avoid the holiday weight gain. The average American gains anywhere between 5-10 pounds of FAT between Thanksgiving and New Years - hence all the New Years Resolutions to lose weight.

Don't settle in to gain weight during the holidays. Also be realistic and have healthy expectations. Really take a look at your schedule over the holiday month - if you know when you are attending parties then plan on being extra diligent with your nutrition plan during the week.
